SPORTS-RELATED EXPRESSIONS (CARRY THE TEAM): meaning and examples
Good morning / afternoon / evening everyone! I hope you are having a good day.
Welcome to our fourth lesson of the week. Today we continue with our look at idioms and expressions related to sports.
Today's sports-related expression is: To carry the team
Definition: This informal expression is used to describe the situation when a member of a team does outstandingly well and does most of the work, leading his/her team to its objective.
Example 1: Janet really carried the team. I don't think we would have finished the advertising campaign on time if it wasn't for her. Thanks Janet!
Example 2: Wow. My daughter's football team has won their last five matches. The coach told me that, in her opinion, they won because my daughter carried the team. I'm so proud of her!
That's all for today. I hope you will join us tomorrow for our last lesson of the week.
All the best!
