SPORTS-RELATED EXPRESSIONS (GO FOR THE GOLD): meaning and examples

Hello everyone! I hope you are having a good day.

Welcome to our second lesson of the week, and the first lesson of February. This week we are looking at idioms and expressions related to sports.

Today's sports-related expression is: To go for the gold

Definition: To pursue or attempt to achieve the very best possible outcome or reward from some activity, task, or endeavour. It is comparing that outcome to winning a gold medal at a competition, especially for athletics.

Example 1: If you want to be successful, you need to go for the gold in every aspect of your business.

Example 2:
John: Tomorrow I'm going to be running in the marathon in my city.
Mary: That's great. Go for the gold!

That's it for today. I hope all of you have a great day and go for the gold in everything you do.

All the best!
