SPRING CLEANING: meaning and examples
Good morning. I hope you had a good weekend!
Tomorrow is the first day of spring and in order to prepare, we have decided to recycle and expand a Daily Vitamin from last year (29/04/2005).
Today's expression is:
spring cleaning
Meaning: This expression refers to the tradition of cleaning your house very completely, usually at the end of winter, although we sometimes use this term to talk about any big, general clean-up that we do.
Example 1:
My wife and I spent a good part of last weekend doing
spring cleaning and we will probably do the same this weekend.
Example 2
I'd like to take advantage of the
spring cleaning this year to throw out a lot of old junk.
Although in other cultures I have seen the tendency for people to clean their house as the weather improves and spring arrives, I think the term
spring cleaning is more typical in Anglo cultures.
Do any of you follow the Anglo tradition of
spring cleaning?
