START FROM SCRATCH
START FROM SCRATCH: meaning and examples
Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin, everyone. I hope you are having a good day!
Today we look at another common English expression that we use a lot in conversation.
Today's expression is: START FROM SCRATCH
Meaning: to begin an activity or task from the very beginning or without preparation or any progress or advantage gained from previous efforts.
Example 1: After we lost our hardrive, we had to start from scratch and rebuild our entire client database.
Example 2: When I was a child my family moved often. Every time we moved to a new town, I had to start from scratch and make new friends and connections.
We looked at this idiom back in May of 2013. You can see that Daily Vitamin at the following URL: https://www.ziggurat.es/lecciones-ingles/scratch-2/2130/
