STRAIGHT-2 (REVISION): meaning and examples
Good morning. Today we continue our review of some common expressions and words related to straight.
Today's expression is: straight away
It means: to do something directly and immediately.
As you can see, straight away has a similar meaning to yesterday's adverb straight. However, straight away is a more common expression because we can combine it with any verb to indicate that we do something immediately. The position of straight away is generally AFTER the verb phrase.
Example 1:
I like to wash the dishes straight away after finishing a meal.
Example 2:
As soon as the meeting had finished, they went back to their offices straight away.
Example 3:
Mr. Jones says he hasn't received the papers yet. Did you send them straight away like I told you?
