Meaning: money that is paid by the government or an organization to reduce the costs of services or of producing goods so that their prices can be kept low.

Example 1:
The government is offering a subsidy to stimulate the purchase of new cars. Their objective is to stimulate the economy.

The European Union provides certain subsidies for language training in companies.
