(SUFFIXES) -LESS / -LY
(SUFFIXES) -LESS / -LY: meaning and examples
Hello again everyone. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin! I hope you are having a good week.
Today we look at two more common English suffixes.
Today's 1st suffix is: -LESS
Meaning -LESS: Without.
Example 1:
After the severe earthquake, the citizens felt hopeless; help from the government arrived very slowly.
Example 2:
That's the second plate that you have broken today while washing the dishes. Please don't be so careless, or we won't have any plates left.
Today's 2nd suffix is: -LY
Meaning -LY: In a certain manner.
Example 3:
I have been happily married for more than 26 years.
I encourage you to write some sentences with some words that use these suffixes. You can add the -LY to QUICK, SLOW, EASY, QUIET, SUDDEN and/or BRIGHT. Or you can add -LESS to words like FEAR, END, WORTH, SPEECH and PRICE.
You can post your sentences on one of our social media sites (Facebook or Twitter/X) and we will give you feedback about your sentences as soon as we can. I hope you will write some sentences, since I know it will help you to improve your English.
I hope the rest of your day goes well. We'll be back tomorrow with another lesson.
All the best!
