SYNONYMS: HAPPY
SYNONYMS: HAPPY: meaning and examples
Hello everyone. Happy Monday to you! I hope all of you had an excellent weekend. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin.
This week we are going to look at different common adjectives in English and some synonyms of those adjectives. The objective is to help you build your vocabulary and be a bit more creative when you want to express yourself.
Today's adjective is: Happy
I think most people know what happy means, but here is an official definition from the Cambridge Online Dictionary: feeling, showing, or causing pleasure or satisfaction.
Following are three synonyms of happy. Although they are synonyms, I have included their official definitions (also from the Cambridge Online Dictionary) so that you can see any differences in meaning.
Joyful: very happy
Example 1: For me summer is such a joyful time of the year; there is less work and the weather is fabulous.
Delighted: very pleased
Example 2: My wife is delighted with her new job. I'm very happy for her.
Elated: extremely happy and excited, often because something has happened or been achieved
Example 3: When my son found out that he had a full-ride football scholarship for a university in the US, he was elated.
Can you choose one or two of these happy synonyms and use them in a coherent sentence? You can post your sentence on one of our social media sites (Facebook or Twitter/X) and we will give you feedback about your sentence as soon as possible.
