TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR LEARNING

Hello everyone. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin! I hope you had a good holiday season, and I hope you were able to disconnect and rest.

This week I'm going to speak about key points related to learning a language. Rather than speak about the English language, we're going to speak about what you have to do if you truly want to learn English.

Responsibility is Key to Learning English
To improve your English, start by taking responsibility for your progress. Many students blame external factors: "I don’t have time," "My teacher isn’t good," or "I’m not talented at learning languages." These excuses keep you stuck because you see the problem as something outside of you; however, the real problem is inside of you.

Always focus on what you can control. First, have you made a committed decision to improve your English? A committed decision is a decision that you make today, but also tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow, and next week. You don't think, "I'll try to improve my English"... you have decided that you will dedicate some time every day (or almost every day) to improve your English. You can't improve until you take responsibility for your learning, and you must make the decision to do what is necessary in order to learn. It's as simple as that. 

Homework
Don't just read this message, do this simple homework.

Write down your English goal for the week and list three steps you’ll take to achieve it. For example, your goal might be to read an article in English every day or listen to a podcast in English or review vocabulary for 15 minutes each day. It can be something very small and simple. It's about creating consistency. Taking responsibility means deciding to act— improvement starts with you!
