Today's expression is: to talk your way out of (doing) something
Meaning: to make excuses and give reasons for not doing something; to manage to get yourself out of a difficult situation.
Example 1:
The director wanted me to do a speech at the annual sales conference, but I managed to talk my way out of it.
Example 2:
His wife knows he has been spending his lunch breaks at Anne's house. I don't know how he is going to talk his way out of this situation.
