TENSE TUESDAY: COMPARATIVES WITH ONE SYLLABLE ADJECTIVES/ADVERBS
TENSE TUESDAY: COMPARATIVES WITH ONE SYLLABLE ADJECTIVES/ADVERBS: meaning and examples
There are several types of comparatives, and today we are looking at the most simple form: those that use one-syllable adjectives and adverbs.
The formula for this comparative with an adjective is ADJECTIVE (WITH ER) THAN.
Example 1: I am older than my cousins.
Example 2: She is younger than me.
Example 3: He is stronger than his teammates.
We use a similar formula for adverbs: ADVERB (WITH ER) THAN.
Example 4: We run faster than the other team.
Example 5: She works harder than everyone.
NOTE: Notice that we do no say harder/faster/stronger, etc.
Next Tuesday we will look at other forms of comparatives. See you tomorrow for Wordy Wednesday and a lesson about a fun slang word!
