TENSE TUESDAY: FUTURE FOR A SPONTANEOUS DECISION
TENSE TUESDAY: FUTURE FOR A SPONTANEOUS DECISION: meaning and examples
Our Tense Tuesday is focusing on the future. We are looking at the future for a spontaneous (unplanned) decision.
Remember that the future can be expressed different ways in English; it is commonly expressed with WILL or GOING TO. Today we are focusing on using WILL when making a quick (unplanned) decision.
Example 1: (The phone rings.) I'll get it.
Example 2: (Dinner is finished.) I'll do the dishes.
Example 3: You're sick? I'll bring you some soup.
In each of these examples, we see that the person is making a decision to do something in the moment. In these situations, WILL BARE INFINITIVE is a better choice than BE GOING TO, which is used for planned future actions.
That's all for today. Thanks for reading!
