TENSE TUESDAY: REFLEXIVE PRONOUNS
TENSE TUESDAY: REFLEXIVE PRONOUNS: meaning and examples
Good morning, readers! Are you having a good day? I hope so.
Today we are looking at Reflexive Pronouns. Here are the Reflexive Pronouns in English.
Singular: myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself
Plural: ourselves, yourselves, themselves
We use a Reflexive Pronoun when a verb has the same object AND subject. The Reflexive Pronoun is usually the Direct Object of the sentence.
Example 1: The students are teaching themselves Mandarin.
Example 2: The restaurant owner introduced himself to us and apologized for the bread with mould on it.
Example 3: I'm sorry I forgot your birthday. I can only blame myself.
Example 4: The vacuum cleaner works now. It seems to have fixed itself.
Note that we must use a TRANSITIVE verb because the verb must take an object to have a reflexive pronoun.
Example 5 (incorrect): **I'll remain myself here.**
That's all for today. Don't tire yourself out by working too hard!
Thanks for reading and have a wonderful day!
