TENSE TUESDAY: SIMPLE PRESENT FOR FUTURE EVENTS: meaning and examples
On Tense Tuesday, The Daily Vitamin will focus on one of the twelve English tenses and provide a short lesson regarding one of the tenses' rules. Today we look at the Simple Present.
The Simple Present is typically used to describe general rules and truths.
Example 1:
I am a father.
Example 2:
Water freezes at 0 degrees Celsius.
However, the Simple Present can also be used to talk about the future if the events are scheduled.
Example 3:
My plane leaves at 9 AM tomorrow morning.
Example 4:
The meeting starts at two.
Example 5:
My classes finish late tonight.
Tune in tomorrow for Wordy Wednesday, where we look at adjectives to replace the overly-used word interesting. And make sure to check back next week for the newest Tense Tuesday, when we examine the Present Progressive and how to use it to complain about the annoying habits of others.
Enjoy the rest of your day!
