TENSE TUESDAY: THE FUTURE IN THE PASSIVE: meaning and examples

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

For today's grammar lesson, we are looking at the Future Passive

We use the Future Passive to talk about things that will be done by someone in the future (although, with the passive, we don't specify who that someone will be).

Because we are talking about the Passive form of the Future, we have two options: WILL and BE GOING TO. Here are the two forms we can use:

WILL BE PAST PARTICIPLE

BE GOING TO BE PAST PARTICIPLE

Example 1: The report will be finished this afternoon.

Example 2: His car will be ready in two hours.

Example 3: They think all of the tickets are going to be sold after only 10 minutes.

Example 4
: Surgery is going to be performed on Friday.

Notice that in each of these cases, we did not say WHO is doing these things.

With the passive, it is often optional to include the BY AGENT. Either it is unimportant or we don't need to state who is doing the action because we already know.

That's all for today. Thanks for reading!
