TENSE TUESDAY: THE PASSIVE WITH 'NEED(S) TO'
TENSE TUESDAY: THE PASSIVE WITH 'NEED(S) TO': meaning and examples
Today we are looking at the PASSIVE VOICE. You might remember that we have a PASSIVE and an ACTIVE form of English tenses. For a little more on the PASSIVE, click on the link below to see a lesson from March 2015 about the subject.

Today we are focusing on the PASSIVE with the modal verb NEED TO. In the PASSIVE we use the form NEED(S) TO BE PAST PARTICIPLE to express something that someone needs to do. Usually these are chores or responsibilities.
Example 1: The floors need to be swept.
(A possible active version of Example 1 would be "I need to sweep the floors.")
Example 2: My car really needs to be washed.
Example 3: The dog needs to be fed before we leave.
