The Second Conditional is used to talk about a hypothetical situation. Its structure is as follows:
if simple past tense, . . . would infinitive without TO
Example 1: If you were born in France, you would speak French.
Example 2: If she studied harder, she would pass her exams with higher scores.
We can also make a contraction with the word WOULD.
Example 3: If they saved their money, they'd have enough for a vacation.
Because we use the Second Conditional to talk about hypothetical situations (and that, in most cases, will not happen), we often use the "lottery example" for this Conditional.
Example 4: If I won the lottery, I'd buy myself a really nice car.
What would you do if you won the lottery? Tell us on our Facebook or Twitter pages, and make sure to use the Second Conditional in your response!
