THAT CROSS WAS PINPOINT!
THAT CROSS WAS PINPOINT!: meaning and examples
Good morning, everyone. I hope you are having a great day. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin.
Today, once again, we look at three more phrases that you can use when watching European football; and some of the phrases would work for other sports too.
Today's three phrases are:
⇒ They're playing a high line in defence. (Referring to a defensive strategy where players stay close to the opponent's goal line)
⇒ The cross was pinpoint! (Complimenting a precise delivery of the ball into the box)
⇒ He received a yellow card for that tackle. (Reporting a player receiving a caution from the referee)
And following is our sample dialogue between a father and a daughter who are watching a football match.
Dialogue
Father: Look at how high they're playing in defence.
Daughter: Yeah, they're playing a high line in defence! It's risky but it's putting a lot of pressure on the opponent's attackers.
Father: Definitely. Oh, did you see that cross just now?
Daughter: Yeah, the cross was pinpoint! Right to the striker's head.
Father: And he nearly scored from it. That was a close one.
Daughter: Agreed. Oh, what just happened?
Father: He received a yellow card for that tackle. It was a bit reckless.
Daughter: Ah, I see. The match is getting intense now.
Father: Indeed, let's see how they respond to being a man down.
