THE 5 SENSES (2): meaning and examples
Today we will look at some verbs used to talk about the sense of smell.
Today's Sense-Verb Expressions are:
to smell like NOUN
to smell ADJECTIVE
They mean: to have an odour that is similar to something else or to have a particular odour.
Example 1:
Ann: Yuck! It smells like rotten eggs in here. What is it?
Michael: Oh sorry. I was doing some chemistry experiments and I spilled some sulphur.
Example 2:
Everybody thinks that babies smell nice. I think it is because they smell like powder. It's a nice clean smell.
Example 3:
The air smells like the sea today. It smells salty.
