THE ENGLISH APOSTROPHE-3 (EWV)
THE ENGLISH APOSTROPHE-3 (EWV): meaning and examples
Good morning.
La semana pasada vimos como la palabra NOT se contrae a menudo con el verbo BE. Para construir una frase negativa cuando no tiene el verbo BE, es necesario usar los verbos auxiliares DO o HAVE
I DO NOT = I DON'T
YOU DO NOT = YOU DON'T
HE DOES NOT = HE DOESN'T
SHE DOES NOT = SHE DOESN'T
IT DOES NOT= IT DOESN'T
WE DO NOT = WE DON'T
THEY DO NOT = THEY DON'T
Considera los siguientes ejemplos:
a) Rachel does not live in Canada --> Rachel doesn't live in Canada.
(Rachel no vive en Canadá.)
b) Unfortunately, you do not study English every day. --> Unfortunately, you don't study English every day.
(Desgraciadamente, no estudias inglés cada día.)
En las frases negativas con el auxiliar HAVE, la situación es parecida:
I HAVE NOT = I HAVEN'T
YOU HAVE NOT = YOU HAVEN'T
HE HAS NOT = HE HASN'T
SHE HAS NOT = SHE HASN'T
IT HAS NOT= IT HASN'T
WE HAVE NOT = WE HAVEN'T
THEY HAVE NOT = THEY HAVEN'T
También HAVE se utiliza en inglés para formar el present perfect.
c) I have not been to Canada. --> I haven't been to Canada.
(No he estado en Canadá.)
d) He has not studied English today. --> He hasn't studied English today.
(No ha estudiado inglés hoy.)
La semana que viene acabaremos este breve repaso de las contracciones estudiando como se forman con los MODAL VERBS.
