THEME THURSDAY: IDIOMS ABOUT FOOD (IT'S ALL GRAVY): meaning and examples

Happy Thursday, everyone! Today is our first Theme Thursday post of November. This month we wanted to look at something everyone loves: food! Each week in November we will look at IDIOMS WITH FOOD. We will continue this theme in December as well.

We begin with the expression IT'S ALL GRAVY

Definition: it's fine; don't worry.

Example 1
: If you can't find this brand of milk at the store, it's all gravy. I can use another brand.

Example 2: You're going to be late? It's all gravy! We aren't in a hurry.

GRAVY is a delicious sauce that is put on meats and other foods. It is typically made from the juices in the bottom of the pan after roasting the meat. How did we start using this food as an expression? Who knows! GRAVY has also been used to describe positive things, like money, in English for a long time.

That's all for today! I hope you're not too hungry now! See you tomorrow for Phrasal Verb Friday!
