THEME THURSDAY: IDIOMS WITH 'FALL'
THEME THURSDAY: IDIOMS WITH 'FALL': meaning and examples
On Theme Thursday, The Daily Vitamin focuses on an English theme. For the month of September, we are discussing idioms. This week includes idioms with fall to celebrate the change of the season from summer to fall (also called autumn).
Idiom 1: To fall asleep at the wheel
Definition: Literally, this means that you fall asleep while driving, which of course is a very bad thing! Used figuratively, this idiom means that you do not pay attention to something.
Example 1: I did horribly on my presentation. During the question and answer section, I fell asleep at the wheel and forgot what the original questions were. My answers did not make sense.
Idiom 2: To fall head over heels in love (with someone)
Definition: To be madly in love!
Example 2: My grandpa fell head over heels in love with my grandma the first time he saw her.
Tune in tomorrow for Phrasal Verb Friday, when we continue our lesson on the word FALL and examine the phrase to fall apart. And make sure to check back next week for another Theme Thursday: we will continue looking at expressions with fall.
