THEME THURSDAY: IDIOMS WITH INSECTS (A FLY ON THE WALL)
THEME THURSDAY: IDIOMS WITH INSECTS (A FLY ON THE WALL): meaning and examples
This month, we are looking at idioms with insects. There are many in English! We start with a very common one: TO BE A FLY ON THE WALL.
Definition: to be a spy; to be in a room where something important is happening, without being noticed.
Example 1: I wish I could be a fly on the wall in the meeting between the President and the Prime Minister.
Example 2: We will never know what happened during their conversation, since we cannot be a fly on the wall.
We often express this as a wish, since this is, of course, something that cannot happen.
Example 3: I would love to be a fly on the wall when he tells her the news.
That's all for today. Are there any walls on which you wish you could be a fly? Let us know on our Facebook page.
