THEME THURSDAY: IDIOMS WITH INSECTS (A FLY ON THE WALL): meaning and examples

Happy Thursday, everyone! Today is our first Theme Thursday of May... are you excited to hear what our new theme is?

This month, we are looking at idioms with insects. There are many in English! We start with a very common one: TO BE A FLY ON THE WALL

Definition: to be a spy; to be in a room where something important is happening, without being noticed.

Example 1: I wish I could be a fly on the wall in the meeting between the President and the Prime Minister.

Example 2: We will never know what happened during their conversation, since we cannot be a fly on the wall

We often express this as a wish, since this is, of course, something that cannot happen.

Example 3: I would love to be a fly on the wall when he tells her the news.

That's all for today. Are there any walls on which you wish you could be a fly? Let us know on our Facebook page.
