THEME THURSDAY: PHRASAL VERBS AS NOUNS (BREAKTHROUGH)
THEME THURSDAY: PHRASAL VERBS AS NOUNS (BREAKTHROUGH): meaning and examples
For this month, we are looking at nouns that come from phrasal verbs. As phrasal verbs, these words (verb adverbial particle) are separate. As a noun, they are combined and are one word.
Our first example is BREAKTHROUGH. We looked at the phrasal verb BREAK THROUGH on February 20, 2015. Click on the link below to review that lesson.

We can also combine the words BREAK and THROUGH to make the noun BREAKTHROUGH.
Definition 1: a sudden, dramatic, and important discovery or development.
Example 1: The discovery of penicillin was one of the most important breakthroughs of modern medicine.
Example 2: I just had a breakthrough on my project! It's progressing much quicker now.
That's all for today! Make sure to check back each week to learn other nouns that have corresponding phrasal verbs.
Speaking of phrasal verbs... remember that tomorrow is phrasal verb Friday. We'll be looking at the verb TO STAND SOMEONE UP.
Enjoy the rest of your day!
