THEME THURSDAY: PHRASAL VERBS AS NOUNS (FALLOUT)
THEME THURSDAY: PHRASAL VERBS AS NOUNS (FALLOUT): meaning and examples
For March's Theme Thursday, we are looking at PHRASAL VERBS that can also have an equivalent NOUN. Last week we began with the phrasal verb TO BREAK THROUGH and the noun BREAKTHROUGH. Today we are looking at FALLOUT.
As a phrasal verb, FALL OUT (with someone) means to have a fight and lose contact.
Example 1: I fell out with my boss and I quit my job.
As a noun, FALLOUT means "the adverse results of a situation or action."
Example 2: We lost another client this week; it's more fallout from the economic crisis. I hope things improve soon!
FALLOUT can also mean "radioactive particles that are carried into the atmosphere after a nuclear explosion and gradually fall back as dust or in precipitation."
Example 3: After the nuclear disaster in Chernobyl, the fallout negatively affected the health of thousands of people.
That's all for today. Have a great day!
