THEME THURSDAY: PORTMANTEAUS (FRENEMY): meaning and examples

Hello everyone, and welcome to our first Theme Thursday of the month. We have a holiday next week, so this is our only Theme Thursday for the month of September. Therefore, we are continuing our Theme Thursday from June: PORTMANTEAUS.

PORTMANTEAUS
are words that are a combination of two words. You can click on the following links to see the previous lessons about them.

Today's word is FRENEMY. It is the combination of the words FRIEND and ENEMY

Definition
: someone who you pretend is your friend, but they are not.

Example 1: I actually really dislike my flatmate. I'd say we are frenemies

Example 2: John and I are not close. In fact, I consider him to be a frenemy

I hope you don't have any FRENEMIES, but if you do, you now have a word to describe them. Sometimes, we have to be nice to people that we do not particularly like.

That's all for today; thanks for reading!
