THEME THURSDAY: WORDS FROM BRANDS (BAND-AID): meaning and examples

Good morning everyone!

If you read last Thursday's post, then you know that for April our Theme Thursday posts are about words that come from brands. These words are names of products or companies, but over time, the name has become the word we use for this product.

Today we are looking at the word BAND-AID

Product: a product made by the company Johnson & Johnson. It is a strip of plastic or cloth that you put over a cut on your skin to help protect it while it heals.

New definition: any similar product used for this purpose.

Example 1: Do you need a Band-Aid for that cut?

Example 2: I cut myself shaving. I need a Band-Aid.

There is a second common definition for this word as well.

Definition 2: a temporary solution to a problem.

Example 3: Many people do not have access to safe drinking water. We can give them bottled water, but this is just a Band-Aid solution; what we really need is to work with them to create proper water infrastructure.

That's all for today. Thanks for reading!
