THEME THURSDAY: WORDS THAT ARE NOUNS AND VERBS (WIND)
THEME THURSDAY: WORDS THAT ARE NOUNS AND VERBS (WIND): meaning and examples
For the month of January, we are looking at words that are both nouns and verbs. Last week we looked at the word REJECT. Click on the link below to see that lesson again.

This week, we are looking at the word WIND. The pronunciation of the word changes depending on whether it's a noun or a verb, and the meaning of the word changes as well.
As a noun, the "i" has a sound similar to the sound of the "i" in the words window, chin, and win.
Definition 1: movement of air.
Example 1: There are high winds today. Drive carefully.
As a verb, the "i" has a sound similar to the sound of the "i" in the words kind, rind, and mind.
Definition 2: To pass something around another object to encircle it.
Example 2: Can you wind this cord for me, please?
Example 3: If you don't wind the wires correctly, they will become tangled.
There is another less-common use of the verb WIND. Do you know what it is? Tell us on our Facebook page.
