TO BE IN GOOD BOOKS: meaning and examples

Good morning!

This week we've looked at vocabulary and expressions related to reading and books. Today we'll explain an idiom with the word 'book'. (There are many!)

Today's expression is
: TO BE IN SOMEONE'S GOOD / BAD BOOKS

Meaning: to be considered favourably by someone; when someone thinks of you in a positive way, you are in their good books. On the contrary, if someone thinks unfavourably of you, you are in their bad books.

Example 1:
Danny has been in my good books ever since he offered to take care of my pets while I was on holiday.

Example 2:
I was the top salesperson last month and I've completed all of my projects on time. I expect that will put me in the boss's good books.

Example 3:
Nathan: Am I in your bad books, Vicky? You haven't called me lately.
Vicky: No, not at all, Nathan. I've just been really busy, that's all.

Remember that tomorrow we present the Essential Weekly Vitamin for Spanish-speaking students of English.

If you would like to learn more about books, then come to our TalkAbout event tonight (April 19th) in Barcelona.
