TO BE LAID UP: meaning and examples
Today's expression is: to be laid up
It means: to stay in bed due to an illness or an inability to move caused by, for example, a broken leg.
Example 1:
Mark won't be playing football on Saturday. He's laid up with a sprained ankle.
Example 2:
My wife and my son are laid up with the flu. I've been very busy taking care of them!
