TO GET OFF SCOT-FREE: meaning and examples

Good morning!

This week we have explained a number of expressions related to being found guilty of a crime. Today is our last expression in this series.

Today's expression is: to get off scot-free

It means: to escape the consequences of a bad or criminal action without penalty.

Example 1:
He was found guilty of corruption but he got off scot-free because of his connections. He didn't have to go to prison or even pay a fine!

Example 2:
It's not fair! We both got caught cheating on the exam but you got off scot-free just because the teacher likes you. I got a zero!

Now you have a lot of new vocabulary and you will be able to talk about any new cases of corruption that come up in the news!

Remember that tomorrow we offer the Essential Weekly Vitamin in Spanish.

Enjoy your day!
