Today's expression is: to give a gift / present
Meaning: To give somebody something without expecting any money in return.
Example 1:
My young daughter always gives me a gift for my birthday. It's usually something she has made herself, like a drawing.
Example 2:
We decided not to give each other gifts this holiday. However, we'll make an exception for the children.
Example 3:
Harold gave his parents an anniversary present, but they exchanged it for something else the following day.
