TO HIT THE SPOT: meaning and examples

Good morning,

Today we finish our mini series of Daily Vitamins about SPOT with another expression.

Today's expression is: TO HIT THE SPOT

Meaning: To express the idea that you got something that was what you needed or wanted at that moment, particularly when it is food or drink.

Example 1:
Whew! I was so thirsty after that long walk! That cold beer really hit the spot.

Example 2:
Your new advertising campaign is really going to hit the spot, just wait and see. The public really responds to those kinds of messages.

Example 3:
Frank: What a wonderful meal, Mary! It really hit the spot, especially those roast potatoes. Mmm... just like my mom used to make!
Mary: Thank you, Frank. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

If you have any questions about our SPOT series, or suggestions for other topics, please let us know by leaving a comment in the Daily Vitamins section on our website.

Remember that tomorrow we present the Essential Weekly Vitamin for Spanish-speaking students of English.

Have a nice day!
