TO LITTER: meaning and examples
Good morning,
Today's word is:
to litter
It refers to: when things cover an area in an untidy way.
It also means: to throw small pieces of paper or other small items of waste materials (
basura) on the ground instead of in a rubbish bin.
Litter can also be used as a noun to refer to paper or other waste materials.
Example 1
Perhaps if people were more civic-minded, they wouldn't
litter so much and the city would be a cleaner place to live.
Example 2
Fred's desk is
littered with paper. I don't know how he can work in the middle of such a mess!
Example 3
The sign reads
Please throw your litter in the bins. There is a 30$ fine for littering, by order of the Municipal Council Authority.
