TO MAKE (4): meaning and examples

Hello everyone. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin.

Today is the last day we will look at expressions with the verb MAKE. Today we concentrate on another very common meaning: to cause something to happen or change.

Use 1:To make somebody do something

Example 1: My boss is trying to make me work weekends, but I honestly can't, due to my family obligations.

Example 2: The Clint Eastwood film, "Bridges of Madison," made him cry.

Use 2: To make somebody happy, sad, angry, etc.

Example 3: Winning the award made him very happy.

Use 3: To make it known

Example 4: He never misses a chance to make it known that his father is the president of the company.
