TO SET, TO REACH A GOAL: meaning and examples
We are going to finish our series on words related to changing habits with two verbs that are commonly used with the noun GOAL.
TO SET A GOAL
It means: to decide on a goal that you want to achieve.
Example 1:
As part of this personal development course, each participant must set three personal goals and three professional goals for next year.
TO REACH A GOAL
It means: to arrive at the point where you have completed your goal.
Example 2:
Mark: What goals have you set for 2013?
Pat: Well, I want to lose weight.
Mark: How will you know when you've reached that goal? Can you be more specific?
Pat: Okay, sure. I want to lose 10kg. I'll know I've reached my goal when I weigh 65 kg.
