Meaning: to create your own business.
Example 1: They set up shop back in 1976 with a very small restaurant on Main Street. Now they have dozens of restaurants across the country.
Example 2: The city is opening a new mall in town. My friend has decided that she will set up shop in the new mall with another one of her yoga studios.
