TO THINK STRAIGHT
TO THINK STRAIGHT: meaning and examples
Good morning.
Today is this week's final expression with the word THINK.
Today's expression is: to (not) think straight
Meaning: It is usually used in the negative to express the idea that you are unable to think clearly, perhaps because you are distracted, overwhelmed or confused.
Example 1:
The telephone hasn't stopped ringing all morning. I have about a hundred e-mails to answer and I hardly slept at all last night. I can't think straight! I think I need a break and a strong cup of coffee.
Example 2:
Omar: Why did you book a holiday to the Alps? I thought you hated skiing.
Jerry: My friends were all pressuring me and I wasn't thinking straight. Now I guess I'm going to be sitting in a wood cabin for a week by myself!
