TOEIC PRACTICE VOCAB: VERITABLE: meaning and examples

Welcome back and happy Monday, everyone! How was your weekend? I hope it was good.

This week we are taking a look at some not-so-common (but very useful) vocabulary words. These are the types of words that are great to use on English proficiency tests like the TOEIC.

Today's word is the adjective VERITABLE.

Definition: A way to describe something great or unusual by comparing it to something else. (This is used for emphasis or exaggeration.)

Example 1: You'll be a veritable farmer after you plant your garden.

Example 2: Your garden is a veritable jungle!

This is used to say something is "real" or "true"...but in exaggeration. Of course, the person in example 1 is not a "real" farmer. (They only have a small garden.) And the garden in example 2 is not really a jungle; it's just a very successful garden.

We hope you enjoyed today's lesson. Join us tomorrow for another!

Have a great day.
