TOO vs. TOO MUCH / TOO MANY: meaning and examples

Good morning!

I hope you enjoyed your weekend. In today's Daily Vitamin we are going to review the difference between TOO and TOO MUCH / TOO MANY. I often hear students confuse them.

We use TOO adjective.

Example 1:
It's too hot in here. Can you turn on the air conditioning?

Example 2:
He's too self-centred. He should consider other people's feelings more.

We use TOO MUCH uncountable nouns.

Example 3:
There's too much fruit in the fridge. I think I'll make a fruit salad with it.

Example 4:
I don't have too much time today so I'll do this task tomorrow.

We use TOO MANY countable nouns.

Example 5:
There are too many people in this room. Let's ask for a bigger one.

Example 6:
If you have too many books, why don't you donate some of the them to the library?

As you can see, we use TOO or TOO MUCH / TOO MANY depending on the words that follow.

Have a great day!
