VERB -ING: meaning and examples

Good morning,

Yesterday we talked about VERB PATTERNS with this sequence:

VERB someone INFINITIVE

Verb patterns are an important grammar point to master in English. You can really give the impression of being a competent English speaker if you use these forms correctly. It's worth spending time learning and practicing them. Today we'll look at another common VERB PATTERN.

Today's verb pattern is
: VERB -ING
Here are some common verbs that follow this pattern (this list is not definitive):

LIKE --> to like doing something
DON'T MIND --> don't mind
doing something
HATE --> to hate doing something
CONSIDER --> to consider doing something
KEEP (ON) --> to keep (on) doing something
PRACTISE --> to practise doing something
RECOMMEND --> to recommend doing something
SUGGEST --> to suggest doing something

Example Sentences
:
-He likes travelling and so he usually goes away at the weekends.
-I don't mind cooking now and again, but I wouldn't want to do it every day.
-They both hate ironing, so they take their clothes to a dry-cleaner.
-Please consider subscribing to our magazine.
-Nathan kept on banging his drum even though his mum had asked him to stop.
-Let's practise speaking in English for a while.
-They recommend sending the application by courier.
-The guidebook suggests taking Route 88, which is much more scenic than the motorway.
