WHEN PIGS FLY
WHEN PIGS FLY: meaning and examples
Good morning, everyone. Happy Friday to you. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin. I hope you've had a great week and that your day is going well.
Today we look at another colloquial, informal English expression.
Today's expression is: WHEN PIGS FLY
Meaning: If we say when pigs fly after someone has said that something might happen or that something will be true, we are emphasizing that we think it is very unlikely, or impossible.
Example 1:
Mother: Erik, will you finish your homework before the deadline?
Erik: Yeah, right... when pigs fly!
Example 2: When pigs fly, maybe we'll finally get the CEO to agree to a four-day workweek. I don't understand why the management are so against this change.
