WHERE IS THE NEAREST RESTROOM?: meaning and examples
Hello everyone. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin. I hope you had a great weekend, and I also hope your week has started off well.
This week we are going to look at different phrases and expressions that we use when we are travelling to ask for different information. You might use them when you are not travelling too, but usually in places that you are not very familiar with.
Today's travel-related question is: WHERE IS THE NEAREST RESTROOM (RESTAURANT, SUPERMARKET, MUSEUM, ETC.)?
Meaning: When we are in a city or town that we are not familiar with, this is a common phrase that we can use to find a specific place we are looking for. We are asking for the location of the nearest restroom or toilet, but it can be used for any place.
Example 1:
Helen: Excuse me, where is the nearest supermarket?
Mike: Oh, that's easy. Just continue two more blocks and turn right on Vine Street, and you'll see a supermarket about 50 metres down on the right.
Helen: Thank you very much.
Example 2:
Kelly: Sorry to interrupt, but can you tell me where the nearest bank is?
Nancy: Yes. There's one right there. Do you see it on the corner?
Kelly: Thanks!
