WILLPOWER
WILLPOWER: meaning and examples
I hope your weekend was pleasant and relaxing! We are over halfway through January, a month where many people decide to change habits and improve their lives in some way, to coincide with the New Year. In English we call these decisions New Year's Resolutions. You can read more about these in the Daily Vitamin from 07/01/2004 (see link below):

...or read my article about resolutions in the latest ZigNews.

So, this week we are going to look at some words related to changing habits.
Today's word is: willpower (to have willpower)
It means: having the mental strength to carry out a decision or a series of actions. These decisions or actions are usually difficult in some way.
Example 1:
Sarah: Would you like a piece of chocolate cake, Dana?
Dana: I would LOVE a piece of chocolate but I'm on a diet. So please, take the cake away because I don't know if I have the willpower to resist it!
Example 2:
Having willpower is not always enough to change a habit. We need to motivate ourselves to change in other ways, too.
Once you form a habit, you won't need willpower anymore, because the English-learning actions will become part of your daily routine. :-)
Have a good day!
