WORDY WEDNESDAY: 'CANDID': meaning and examples

Hello everyone, and happy Wednesday to you! I hope that your week is going well.

For today's Wordy Wednesday, we are looking at the word CANDID.

Definition 1: truthful and straightforward.

Example 1: People were surprised by his candid response to the question about his divorce. Usually celebrities don't talk about their personal life.

Definition 2: a photograph of a person taken informally; especially without the subject's knowledge that the photo is being taken.

Example 2: My brother took some candid photos of locals during our trip to Greece. They are beautiful.

Example 3: I love this candid photo of my mother when she was twenty. She looks so pretty!

There is a website that is a perfect example of the word CANDID. Humans of New York (also called HONY), was started by a New York photographer, Brandon. Brandon walks the streets of New York, interviewing and photographing people. He publishes their photos and includes a quote from the person. The photos are planned, so we cannot describe them as totally CANDID. However, the quotes are very CANDID. People talk openly about their lives, their worries, and their hopes.

If you want to improve your English, subscribing to HONY may be a good option.
