WORDY WEDNESDAY: PRONUNCIATION OF "PERFECT"
WORDY WEDNESDAY: PRONUNCIATION OF PERFECT: meaning and examples
Today for Wordy Wednesday we are looking at how to pronounce a word that is both an adjective and a verb. We will look at the two-syllable word PER-FECT. It can be an adjective or a verb, depending on the context and how it is pronounced.
For the adjective, we put the stress on the first syllable.
Example 1: Your pronunciation is PERfect!
Example 2: This presentation looks PERfect.
For the verb, we put the emphasis on the second syllable.
Example 3: I need to perFECT my presentation.
Example 4: To perFECT your English, practice it daily.
Notice that the definitions are also different for each of these words. The adjective PERfect means without flaws or errors and the verb perFECT means to make something perfect.
Tomorrow we will continue our Theme Thursday with another lesson on Formal vs. Informal Business Emails.
Until then, have a great day!
