WORDY WEDNESDAY: 'STATE OF THE ART': meaning and examples
Are you a fan of technology? Do you love having the newest product or device? If so, you may really enjoy today's Wordy Wednesday post. We are looking at the expression STATE OF THE ART.
Definition: the current or highest development in an industry or field.
It can be used as a NOUN PHRASE or as an ADJECTIVE.
Example 1 (noun phrase): He improved the state of the art of mobile phones by inventing a smaller SIM card.
Example 2 (adjective): He insists on having only state-of-the-art appliances in his house.
Notice that with an adjective, we use hyphens between the words. State of the art becomes state-of-the-art.
