WORDY WEDNESDAY: TO CARVE: meaning and examples

Hello, readers! I hope your week is going well.

As you know, this month we are focusing on Halloween-related words, expressions, and phrasal verbs; today we are looking at a verb commonly used during October: TO CARVE.

Definition 1: to cut a hard material to make a design or object.

We use this verb when we talk about the designs we make on pumpkins.

Example 1: He carved a scary face on the pumpkin.

Example 2: We are carving pumpkins on Saturday.

Example 3: After we carved the pumpkins, we put them outside next to the front door.

There is another definition for the word CARVE, and it's related to food.

Definition 2: to cut cooked meat into slices so the meat can be served.

Example 4: He carved the turkey and then we ate.

This second definition is common for next month's US and Canadian holiday: Thanksgiving!

That's all for today. Thanks for reading!
