WUNDERKIND: meaning and examples

Hello everyone. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin

Today we are going to look at an English word that was borrowed from German.

Today's word is: Wunderkind

Meaning: a person who is very clever and/or good at something and achieves success at a young age.

This word is made up of the German words "wunder" (wonder) and "kind" (child). So wunderkind is "wonder-child"

Example 1: Steve Jobs and Bill Gates were considered the wunderkinds of the Silicon Valley in the 1980s and 1990s.

Example 2: The 31-year-old sales wunderkind regularly receives job offers to head the sales departments of some of Britain's biggest companies.

If you would like some extra practice with this word, I encourage you to create your own original sentence with wunderkind. You can post your sentence on one of our social media sites (Facebook or Twitter) and we will give you feedback as soon as possible.
