HOLIDAY SONGS (THE CHRISTMAS SONG)

LISTEN TO THE DAILY VITAMIN HERE:

Hello, everyone!

Today is our last day of Holiday Songs; we are finishing with the song "THE CHRISTMAS SONG." This is a classic Christmas song written in 1945 by Bob Wells and Mel Tormé. We're going to use the version by Nat King Cole today. In the song, Cole uses the word "AGLOW."

Definition of AGLOW: Glowing.

Example 1 (from the song): Tiny tots, with their eyes all aglow / Will find it hard to sleep tonight.

Example 2: The sky was aglow from the fireworks.

Example 3: The church was aglow from the candles.

Here is the link to today's song:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwacxSnc4tI

And here you can read the lyrics:

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire
Jack Frost nipping at your nose
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir
And folks dressed up like Eskimos

Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe
Help to make the season bright
Tiny tots, with their eyes all aglow
Will find it hard to sleep tonight

They know that Santa's on his way
He's loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh
And every mother's child is gonna spy
To see if reindeer really know how to fly

And so I'm offering this simple phrase
To kids from one to ninety-two
Although it's been said many times, many ways
Merry Christmas to you

And so I'm offering this simple phrase
To kids from one to ninety-two
Although it's been said many times, many ways
Merry Christmas to you

That's all for this week. Next week, we will have some fun holiday-related jokes.

Have a great weekend!

HOLIDAY SONGS (IT'S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR)

LISTEN TO THE DAILY VITAMIN HERE:

Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin everyone!

It's our third day of Holiday Songs, and today we are looking at the #3 Christmas song of all time, according to a list from Billboard Magazine. It is "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year." This is a popular Christmas song written in 1963 by Edward Pola and George Wyle. It was recorded and released that year by pop singer Andy Williams for his first Christmas album, The Andy Williams Christmas Album. Today we are looking at the word GAY.

Definition of GAY: Happy; in a good mood.

Example 1 (from today's song): It's the hap-happiest season of all / With those holiday greetings and gay happy meetings / When friends come to call

Example 2: It was a gay party.

This is the older definition of the word GAY. Today, it is almost exclusively used to define a person's sexuality (GAY = homosexual). And it can also be a woman's name in English. But you will still see and hear the word GAY in older songs, books, and movies used to describe a happy person, thing, or event.

Here is the link to today's song:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-k7BWDm_Lg

And here are the full lyrics to the song:

It's the most wonderful time of the year
With the kids jingle belling
And everyone telling you be of good cheer
It's the most wonderful time of the year

It's the hap-happiest season of all
With those holiday greetings and gay happy meetings
When friends come to call
It's the hap-happiest season of all

There'll be parties for hosting
Marshmallows for toasting
And carolling out in the snow

There'll be scary ghost stories
And tales of the glories of
Christmases long, long ago
It's the most wonderful time of the year

There'll be much mistltoeing
And hearts will be glowing
When loved ones are near
It's the most wonderful time of the year

There'll be parties for hosting
Marshmallows for toasting
And carolling out in the snow

There'll be scary ghost stories
And tales of the glories of
Christmases long, long ago
It's the most wonderful time of the year

There'll be much mistltoeing
And hearts will be glowing
When love ones are near
It's the most wonderful time
Yes the most wonderful time
Oh the most wonderful time
Of the year

Tomorrow is a bank holiday in Spain, so there will be no Daily Vitamin; we will see you on Friday for our last lesson of the week.

Thank you for reading!

HOLIDAY SONGS (ROCKIN’ AROUND THE CHRISTMAS TREE)

LISTEN TO THE DAILY VITAMIN HERE:

Welcome back, everyone! It's the second day of our week of Holiday Songs. Today we are looking at the #2 most popular holiday song, according to Billboard Magazine. It's Brenda Lee's "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree." The song was written by Johnny Marks and recorded by Brenda Lee in 1958.

This song uses the word "rocking" (which can mean "partying" or "dancing" or "playing music"). You will notice that the "G" is missing from the word: it is spelled "rockin'."
This is common in English: it's informal, and it changes the way that we pronounce the word. Words ending in -ING end with the sound "ING."

Here are some examples:
Rocking
Dancing
Singing
Playing

However, it is common to drop the "G" from the end of -ING words. This changes the pronunciation so that the word ends with the sound "-IN." Here are some examples:
Rockin'
Dancin'
Singin'
Playin'

You will notice that this song does this twice: with the words "rocking" and "dancing."

You can listen to the full song here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3HJgCcSUqQ

Here are the lyrics to the song:

Rockin' around the Christmas tree
At the Christmas party hop
Mistletoe hung where you can see
Every couple tries to stop

Rockin' around the Christmas tree
Let the Christmas spirit ring
Later we'll have some pumpkin pie
And we'll do some carolling

You will get a sentimental feeling when you hear
Voices singing, let's be jolly
Deck the halls with boughs of holly

Rockin' around the Christmas tree
Have a happy holiday
Everyone dancin' merrily
In the new old-fashioned way

You will get a sentimental feeling when you hear
Voices singing, let's be jolly
Deck the halls with boughs of holly

Rockin' around the Christmas tree
Have a happy holiday
Everyone dancin' merrily
In the new old-fashioned way

Notice that we add an apostrophe to the end of the word Rockin' . This is where the "G" originally was.

That's all for today. Thank you for reading!

HOLIDAY SONGS (ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOU)

LISTEN TO THE DAILY VITAMIN HERE:

Happy Monday, everyone!

Today is our first Daily Vitamin lesson of December. We decided to get into the holiday spirit, so this week's theme is Famous Holiday Songs. We will look at the vocabulary from different holiday songs this week.

We are beginning with the #1 Christmas song, according to Billboard Magazine: Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You. This song uses an interesting preposition: UNDERNEATH

Definition: Directly under something else.

Example 1 (from the song): And I'm just gonna keep on waiting / Underneath the mistletoe.

Example 2: All of the presents are underneath the tree.

Example 3: We hang the stockings above the fireplace. Underneath the stockings, we put some cookies for Santa Claus.

Underneath is similar to the preposition underUnder is used when something is directly under another thing and underneath is often used to say that something is under another thing but also covered by it.

You can listen to the full song here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXQViqx6GMY

Here are the full lyrics to the song.

I don't want a lot for Christmas
There is just one thing I need
I don't care about the presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas is you

I don't want a lot for Christmas
There is just one thing I need
And I don't care about the presents
Underneath the Christmas tree

I don't need to hang my stocking
There upon the fireplace
Santa Claus won't make me happy
With a toy on Christmas day
I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas is you

I won't ask for much this Christmas
I won't even wish for snow
And I, I just wanna keep on waiting
Underneath the mistletoe

I won't make a list and send it
To the North Pole for St. Nick

I won't even stay awake
To hear those magic reindeer click

Cause I just want you here tonight
Holding onto me so tight

What more can I do
Oh baby, all I want for Christmas is you

All the lights are shining
So brightly everywhere
And the sound of children's
Laughter fills the air
And everyone is singing
I hear those sleigh bells ringing
Santa won't you bring me
The one I really need
Won't you please bring my baby to me, quickly
I don't want a lot for Christmas
This is all I'm asking for
I just wanna see my baby
Standing right outside my door
I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
Oh Baby, all I want for Christmas is you
All I want for Christmas is you, baby

Thanks for reading! Enjoy the rest of your day.

I hope you enjoy the song. Thanks for reading!

Marching On

For those days we felt like a mistake
Those times when loves what you hate
somehow we keep marchin on

For those nights that i couldn't be there,
I've made it harder to know that you know
That somehow
We'll keep movin' on

There's so many wars we fought
There's so many things we're not
But with what we have
I promise you that
We're marchin' on
We're marchin' on

There's so many wars we fought
There's so many things we're not
But with what we have
I promise you that
We're marchin' on
We're marchin' on

So many hills we had to climb
almost without our strength
but we kept
slowly marchin on

time heals the wounds we couldnt close
blood sweat and tears dried up
we're okay
we kept marchin on

There's so many wars we fought
There's so many things we're not
But with what we have
I promise you that
We're marchin' on
We're marchin' on

There's so many wars we fought
There's so many things we're not
But with what we have
I promise you that
We're marchin' on
We're marchin' on

get your legs and walk
cause we're not too far
a little more to go
but we're marchin on
we marchin on
we marchin on
we marchin on
we marchin

if we lose the sun we couldnt deny that
if we go the wind we gotta fight back
but we marchin on
we marchin on
we marchin on
we marchin

the bridges are gone
and we're almost home
the end is close

There's so many wars we fought
There's so many things we're not
But with what we have
I promise you that
We're marchin' on
We're marchin' on

There's so many wars we fought
There's so many things we're not
But with what we have
I promise you that
We're marchin' on
We're marchin' on
